According to CAL FIRE, the fire season in California and across the West is starting earlier and ending later each year. Warmer spring and summer temperatures, reduced snowpack, and earlier spring snowmelt create longer dry seasons that increase moisture stress on vegetation and make forests more susceptible to wildfire.
The 2018 wildfire season was the deadliest and the most destructive fire season in California history, burning close to 2 million acres. Cosumnes Fire Department OES engines, Type 3’s and strike team leaders had firefighters working around the clock, battling the brutal blazes aggravating our State. From the Carr Fire, Mendocino Complex, and Camp Fire, we are fortunate and thankful all our firefighters returned home safe.
