EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES The Cosumnes CSD Fire Department provides ambulance transportation and pre-hospital care for the cities of Elk Grove and Galt; we also provide mutual aid transportation for Wilton, Herald, Courtland, and Walnut Grove. These services are managed and coordinated by the District's EMS Division. This division is managed by Battalion Chief Peter Sakaris and supported by a staff of two EMS Captains a Performance and Development Coordinator, and an Administrative Specialist. The Cosumnes CSD Fire Department employs over 60 EMTs (emergency medical technicians) and more than 80 paramedics. The department operates 6 full-time ambulance companies. EMS Division offices are located at the Fire Department's Headquarters on East Stockton Boulevard. The EMS Lab located there offers state-of-the-art training equipment for continuing education and training for District and regional emergency medical service providers. A History of Firsts After staffing the ambulance with dedicated fire personnel and a series of private contractors, the Fire Department hired Sacramento County’s first licensed paramedic, Kit Carver. The Department continued to be a leader in emergency services when it became first in the County to use electronic cardiac monitors. Even today, the EMS Division strives to provide the most advanced and skilled care available. With continued training and state-of-the-art equipment, the EMS Division remains one of the leaders in Sacramento County’s emergency care.
