Employee Spotlight: Captain Don McCoy

Captain McCoy

Cosumnes Fire Captain Don McCoy began his fire service career 29 years ago and proved his dedication and strong work ethic as he rose through the ranks. He started as a volunteer firefighter with the Galt Fire Protection District in 1989, was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic in 1992, then promoted to Engineer in 1997, and to Captain in 2000.

Captain McCoy considers his job “the best job in the world.” He appreciates being part of a highly-skilled team that can make a difficult situation better for the people they serve. “If I can play a part – no matter how large or small – to make their situation better, that’s what I enjoy most about my job,” he said.

Captain McCoy’s strong work ethic is matched only by his devotion to his family. He is a devoted husband to his wife Shirley, and proud father of two, Miranda and Joey, who are seniors at Sacramento State and Liberty Ranch High School, respectively. When his family gets quality time together, they enjoy playing games, attending concerts or Giants baseball games, or just barbequing and hanging out.

Captain McCoy is a valued asset to the fire family and it is our pleasure to recognize him in this month’s Employee Spotlight.
