The Cosumnes Fire Department welcomes Laurel Schamber as the new Public Education Officer. Schamber’s primary responsibility is to interact with the community to teach fire and life safety messages in a fun and accessible way.
The Department has one Public Education Officer in the Fire Prevention Bureau, but Schamber believes there are truly 140 Public Education Officers because each Cosumnes Firefighter/Paramedic helps educate the public on every call they answer.
Sixteen years ago, Schamber was working as a paralegal when she decided to follow her passion, and she has been working in the Emergency Medical System ever since. She has completed public education training through the California State Fire Marshal’s office and is also a Certified Car Seat Technician, so she can help inspect and install car seats to keep our littlest residents safe. Schamber has lived in Galt for 14 years with her husband who serves as a Captain in the Cosumnes Fire Department. When not at work, Schamber goes horseback riding every chance she gets.
