CSD Sports Complex Opens in Elk Grove
The Hal Bartholomew Sports Park, the first of its kind in the region, is now open to the public. The 46-acre park, adjacent to Franklin School off Whitelock Parkway in Elk Grove, features four lighted all-season artificial turf fields for soccer, football and lacrosse, three lighted softball fields, one lighted baseball field, lighted tennis courts, one meeting room facility, a playground, two restroom/concession buildings, and multiple shade structures.
The park is named for Hal Bartholomew, a third generation Elk Grove native who was instrumental in the establishment of youth and sports programs in Elk Grove, and the creation of the CSD’s park system.
The Hal Bartholomew Sports Park, is the second largest park in the CSD’s 86-park system. The 127-acre Elk Grove Regional Park, which the CSD leases from Sacramento County, is the largest. Picture gallery for the Bartholomew Sports Park is available here
The public is invited to a dedication ceremony for the new park on Saturday, Aug. 21, starting at 10 :30 a.m. After the ceremony, a complimentary lunch will be served by the Rotary Club. Soccer and baseball games will be under way.

CSD has expanded Fales Park with the help of the Sacramento First Five Commission
With the help of the Sacramento First Five Commission, the Cosumnes CSD has expanded Fales Park off of Auberry Drive near Calvine Road. The new section features a tot lot and butterfly garden built with the assistance of a $50,000 grant from the Sacramento First Five Commission. The First 5 Sacramento Commission is part of a statewide program created by voters in 1998 to support healthy early childhood development. It is funded through tobacco taxes. First 5 Sacramento funds the building of tot lots as one strategy to reduce obesity rates for children in Sacramento County. The butterfly garden, meanwhile, is way for children to appreciate and care for their environment and see how plants feed and shelter animals. The plants in this butterfly garden will provide food and shelter to butterflies at all stages of their development.
